About Us
Miller Ranch offers some of the finest Columbian Blacktail deer hunting in Northern California. The Ranch has been in the family since 1936. Located in the heart of big buck country, east of Laytonville, California in Mendocino County. Miller Ranch harbors a healthy population of Blacktail deer. An outstanding percentage of those being mature bucks.

Miller Ranch consists of 1,000 acres of prime Blacktail habitat. Its rolling to steep hills are covered with a combination of oaks timber species and scrub brush, oaks and meadows. Add a couple of nutrient rich burn areas and plenty of water you have a combination that cannot be beat for producing trophy class Blacktails. What makes Miller ranch unique is that it operates under the California Department of Fish and Game's Private Lands Wildlife Management Program (PLM). This allows the Miller Ranch to work in conjunction with Fish and Game in managing its game populations and in return we are allowed to establish our own special hunting seasons within the boundaries of Miller Ranch. Secondly, in 1986 when planning Miller Ranch's management program, it was decided to limit all deer harvest to the use of archery equipment only! This gives the serious bow hunter an excellent opportunity to have a quality bow hunting experience during both early and late seasons without competition from rifle hunters.

Richard Eriksen will be your guide. Richard has been raised on the Ranch since 1964. He learned to gun hunt at an early age from  his parents. He started an archery only ranch in 1986 and became an archery hunter himself. Even with limited amount of time to hunt himself he has hunted from Mexico into Canada harvesting a number of big game animals, which includes all of the North American deer species, all of which qualify for Pope and Young (P&Y) Record book. Richard can be reached at 1 - 707 - 984 - 6092

The main technique on all hunts is spot and stalk, with some tree stand or ground blinds being used. When spot and stalking is employed you're not on your own. Richard will go as far as possible most times ranging the animal for the hunter. Rattling and calling will be used in the late season if the circumstances are right. Spot and stalk is very exciting whether its feeding animals or on bedded bucks. Richard reads the contours like few can and over the many years it is not unlikely he has been to the same spot before.

Richard uses 10x42 Swarovski glasses for general use, 15 x56 Swarovski glasses on a tripod for long range use, and a 20-65-80 Swarovski spotting scope to assess trophy quality.
